Thrice Around the Room
The layout that should have won the Classic Toy Trains layout contest instead of the actual winners, but didn't for reasons known only to CTT. We present several variations on this layout with different track systems and different minimum curvatures.
The standard layout is 16' x 12' as per the CTT contest rules. In this area we have used O54 and some O42 in the Lionel O version. We have been able to increase the minimum radius in versions using GarGraves O and Atlas O track. We also present versions scaled to a 12 ' x 9' footprint with O42 as the standard curve radius.
Full size layout with GarGraves O track: 109 track sections (~$700) and 32 accessories; 188ft of track; minimum radius of O54 with several curves of O63. Reversing loop, single loop or three pass operation,
seven sidings, two tunnels. Maximum grade of 2.3 per cent. Uses GarGraves O track library and the O-Scale Accessories library.

Full size layout with Lionel O track: 144 track sections(~$900) and 47 accessories; 181ft of track; minimum radius of O54 except two sections O42 on upper level. Reversing loop, single loop or three pass operation, five sidings, one tunnel. Uses Lionel O track library and the Lionel Modern Accessories library.

three sidings, two tunnels. Maximum grade of 4.0 per cent. Uses GarGraves O track library and the MTH RailKing accessory library.

Download instructions: all of the layouts on this page download as self installing executables. Download the individual files, and then run the executable. The installer will find your RR-Track v4 installation and copy the layout to a folder entitled 'examples' below your RR-Track v4 home folder. You must have a copy of RR-Track v4 in order to use the layouts.

The installer will find your My RR-Track Layouts folder and install these examples in a folder in that location. These layout designs are not compatible with earlier versions of RR-Track.
